Tracey's Design Philosophy

Interior design is about more than just looks. My philosophy is that your home should be a reflection of you (not just something you’ve seen in a magazine); improve your everyday lifestyle but still feel special; offer both a place to retreat and a place to come out of your shell; and do all of this while preserving our collective home, Mother Nature.

Here's how I do it:

Great design happens when knowledge and expertise meet personal style, which is why collaboration with homeowners is at the forefront of what I do. I begin each project by getting to know your preferences, needs, budget, and how your existing space works. Your input then guides my designs to create a space with function, feel, and a look that reflects who you are and the way you really live.

Functional, practical comfort

Functionality is the most important criteria in any project I do – form without function is failure. Each room design begins with a space plan to nail down the bones of the space and how it will serve you and your lifestyle. Only after the space planning is complete do I shift my focus to style and the aesthetic details that dress up your space and make it you.

Handpicked team

In my nearly 25 years of serving the Montclair area, I have assembled a team of the most reliable and talented people in all areas of construction, renovation, home design, and decoration. Our relationships are founded on mutual trust, unrivaled attention to detail, and a passion for what we do. However, my team knows that each project is more of an audition – the only way to guarantee a spot on my crew is through consistent, top-quality work on every single job.

At the core of my philosophy is an unwavering commitment to green design. By offering sustainable options that replace wasteful or toxic materials and practices, I create spaces that are healthy, efficient, and safe for people and the environment. In 2013, I was the first interior designer in the Montclair area (and among the first in NJ) to be certified as a ReGREEN Trained Professional through the U.S. Green Building Council and the American Society of Interior Designers, and my dedication to sustainability has only deepened since.

Spending plan

As a steward of your resources, I carefully work with you throughout your project to develop a realistic plan for investment in your home. To ensure budget adherence, I provide options at different price points, track and manage project spending to minimize surprises, and mix high and low goods to create a unique space that doesn’t break the bank.
