The client wanted to update the style of the existing 200 square foot kitchen that had "crummy old cabinets" and a mirrored backsplash. The layout was not great either. The prime offender was the range that was jammed too close into the corner.
Minor layout changes made a big difference: The range was moved a comfortable 24" to the right (which also allowed for the addition of a corner base cabinet) and the peninsula was moved to the other side of the room. The microwave is now housed in a wall cabinet, freeing up valuable counter space. Appliances got a major upgrade: a Bertazzoni professional series range and hood, a Marvel undercounter wine refrigerator, Bosch dishwasher and a slim 30" wide counter depth Blomberg refrigerator.
The goal for the entire multi-room project (see the bathroom here) was to create a townhome that felt clean and fresh. The subdued colors of the kitchen (off white cabinets, engineered stone "Carrara marble" countertop, blue grey backsplash tile, long plank cement look porcelain floor tile and pale blue/green/grey walls) provide a neutral backdrop for the client's pine family hutch, Vermont antique dining table and other treasures from her extensive travels.
