Problem
The small cramped 88 square foot kitchen lacked enough counterspace or storage. The eating "nook" was too separate from the kitchen. The
small formal dining room didn't fit with the lifestyle of the first time homebuyers in Bloomfield, NJ.
Kitchen Before:
Solution
The walls between the dining room, kitchen and eating nook were removed to create an open and bright kitchen (140 sq ft) and dining space. By
removing the angled door to the basement & rebuilding the stairs, there was enough clearance for an island where the pastry chef wife now
has lots of space for baking. The color palette was inspired by 4 handpainted Mexican tiles the young couple had purchased years before,
saving them for their future first home. The backsplash solid color tiles and the 12 x 12 floor tiles laid in a brick pattern were selected from the
colors in those tiles. The maple cabinets, countertop and walls continue the warm color tones.
