2006 NJ ASID Bronze award for design excellence in a residential kitchen.

Problem:

This dark narrow Maplewood, NJ kitchen had inadequate counterspace & storage. The cramped eating area was separated from kitchen.

Kitchen Before:

maplewood kitchen before renovation - dark and cramped

Solution:

Without adding on, this space was transformed into a functional fun kitchen. I removed the arch to integrate the eating area into the kitchen and to add more natural light. A table height peninsula is large enough for two people to sit comfortably. Relocating a small pantry closet provided more countertop space. Multiple sources of light – recessed hi-hats, undercabinet fixtures and a decorative chandelier over the eating area -- brightened the room. Tile floor in a diagonal brick pattern adds visual interest. The color palette is balanced between medium tones and bright saturated color all anchored by black.
